Insurance Insights: Sobering Road Rage Statistics
According to a recent report by the American Automobile Association (AAA), eight out of ten drivers admitted to showing some kind of anger while driving. These behaviors include following another vehicle too closely, yelling at another driver, cutting another driver off, or displaying an angry gesture. Research shows that these behaviors, which are increasing, substantially contribute to fatal crashes. According to AAA estimates, nearly 6 million drivers have bumped or rammed another car on purpose, while 7 million drivers emerged from their vehicles to confront another driver. The AAA report went on to say that male drivers and drivers between 19 and 39 were significantly more likely to engage in aggressive behaviors. Better driving skills and road manners are needed.

Quick Tip: The rise in road rage is at least partially due to driver inattention. Texting while driving and driving distractedly leads to sudden brakes and veering, which lead to avoidable fender benders and worse crashes.
