Summer is coming to a close and it is just about time for pumpkin spice candles, comfy sweaters, flea markets and football games. It’s a great time to do some fall clean up around the house, too. Soon enough, winter will be here packing its punch of freezing cold temps and possible snow storms. Before it gets here, make sure your home is ready to withstand anything that Mother Nature can dish out.
Take a walk around your home to see if anything needs to be repaired before winter sets in. Have you noticed any cracks in your walkways or in your home’s foundation? Having them fixed now will help prevent them from becoming bigger problems later. As we know, water expands when it is frozen. Any moisture in the cracks can expand and contract with the change in temperature causing the cracks to enlarge. Fix them now before the cold weather makes them much worse than they already are. Plus, fixing a broken walkway will be making it safer for people to walk to your home.
Also, clean out your gutters now and then again once all the leaves are off the trees. You want to make sure they are clear so that rain water can flow properly from your roof. If it stays up there and freezes, it could cause major problems for your roof.
But don’t start hibernating just yet! Fall is such a great time to enjoy the outdoors. Grab some friends and have an evening fire with some hot cocoa and roasted marshmallows. It will feel great to snuggle up in a blanket outside on a crisp fall night. Enjoy all that fall has to offer, but remember to keep your home and family safe by making a few preparations for the winter season. Have a great fall season.
